Port of London

The Port of London lies along the banks of the River Thames from London, England to the North Sea. Once the largest port in the world, it is currently the United Kingdom’s second largest port, after Grimsby & Immingham.

The port is governed by the Port of London Authority (PLA), a public trust established in 1908, whose responsibility extends over the Tideway of the River Thames.

The port can handle cruise liners, ro-ro ferries and cargo of all types including containers, timber, paper, vehicles, aggregates, crude oil, petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas, coal, metals, grain and other dry and liquid bulk materials.

Thames port

Built at the turn of the nineties, London Thames port has quickly become one of the leading players in the European container handling market. Boasting robotic cranes, Thames port is one of the most technologically advanced ports in the world.

Services currently run to the Americas, Far and Middle East, Africa, Continental Europe and the Baltic. Inland , Thames port benefits from fast, dedicated road and rail freight connections to the important manufacturing and distribution centers of the UK.

The Port, which includes container and cargo operations, covers a total area of 85 hectares. It offers highly automated secure container yards and modern warehousing. The quay is dredged to a depth of -15 meters, allowing the largest vessels currently afloat, and under design, to berth.

Port of Felixstowe

Port of Felixstowe (PFL) is the largest container port in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. PFL is a member of the Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) Group.

HPH, a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa Limited (HWL), is the world’s leading port investor, developer and operator with interests in a total of 51 ports, spanning 25 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Australasia. HPH also owns a number of transportation-related service companies.

Port of Liverpool

Port of Liverpool and Manchester Ship Canal offer a comprehensive range of port facilities, handling more than 40 million tones of cargo and 15,000 ship movements a year – making the River Mersey Britain’s third busiest estuary.

The Port and Canal form the “green” gateway to an economy of more than 120,000 industrial and commercial enterprises and a population equal to that of greater London.

Once the fiercest commercial rivals, the Port of Liverpool and the Manchester Ship Canal are now as one under the banner of Peel Ports, the UK’s second largest ports group.

Port of Southampton

Southampton is one of the UK’s busiest and most important ports, and a principal driver in the regional economy. It handles in excess of 42 million tones of cargo annually – or around seven per cent of the UK’s entire seaborne trade – and is the main gateway for Far East imports.

Its natural deep-water harbor, unique double tide and sophisticated Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) allow the port to welcome the world’s largest vessels, from deep-sea container ships to cruise giants.

The port is also widely recognized as the capital of the country’s cruise industry, and each year more and more cruise liners take advantage of Southampton’s superb cruise terminals.

Port of Immingham

Together with its sister Port of Grimsby, Immingham is the UK’s largest port by tonnage. Benefiting from a prime deep-water location on the Humber Estuary, Immingham provides excellent access to the trade routes between the UK and Scandinavia, the Baltic States and mainland Europe.

The port’s links extend throughout Europe, to North and South America, Africa, Australia, the Middle East and the Far East. The opening of Humber International Terminal 2 and DFDS Nordic Terminal Riverside, coupled with ongoing investment has helped to secure Immingham’s place at the forefront of the UK port industry.
